Montgomery County, Maryland Public Libraries Celebrate African American History Month

 

In observance of African American History Month during February, Montgomery County Public Libraries will host a variety of programs of interest to the public at branches throughout the county.  Programs to be held in the Mid-County region include: 


Saturday, February 4 – The Underground Railroad: A Personal Journey.
Historian Anthony Cohen, a fourth generation descendant of a runaway slave, recounts the gripping tale of his ancestor, Patrick Sneed, who fled bondage in 1851. Ages eight and above. 2 p.m. Large meeting room, downstairs. Wheaton Library, 11701 Georgia Ave. 240-777-0678.


Thursday, February 9 – Second Story Duo Concert.

The Community Development Venture Capital Alliance 2006 Annual Conference will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 28 and 29 at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. The 2006 CDVCA Annual Conference -- the training and networking event for anyone interested in community development venture capital (CDVC) -- will offer a new case study, a variety of technically-focused breakout sessions, opportunities to hear from industry leaders, and networking with other practitioners and investors.

An introductory workshop entitled Double Bottom Line Investing: An Introduction to the CDVC Approach precedes the conference on Monday, March 27. This one-day workshop will provide an overview of the industry and practice of CDVC investing. If you are new to the field, attending this event serves as the ideal entry point to the conference as a whole.  Details will be available on website www.cdvca.org.

The Community Development Venture Capital Alliance (CDVCA) is the network for the rapidly growing field of community development venture capital (CDVC) investing. CDVC funds provide equity capital to businesses in underinvested markets, seeking market-rate financial returns, as well as the creation of good jobs, wealth, and entrepreneurial capacity.

The annual observance of National Small Business Week is April 9-15, with events scheduled on April 12-13 at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center.  The

This year’s National Small Business Week honors will feature special awards ceremonies that include:
